The legendary Teplice underground band, which deviated from the muddy waters of the underground with considerable instrumental skills, based on the same musical roots as, for example, King Crimson. On the contrary, raw and typically underground singing / shouting, including politically colored lyrics, did not allow the band to perform other than at private events. The repertoire captured on this CD is probably the darkest and bleakest in the entire history of the ensemble and fully captures the hopelessness of that time.
The band was formed in Teplice, in the dense and stifling mood of the North Bohemian agglomeration with a considerable cultural tradition in 1987 by being reborn from the never-allowed group Utaja Hunata.
Although they belonged to the few workers in the Czech underground where they played really often, from the point of view of "historical memory" the band remained essentially unnoticed. Although what I saw - and I saw them many times - they were able to light fires in the eyes of the audience, which said that not everything was lost yet. And that was a lot going on during the Bolshevik era. The band literally radiated energy and inner freedom on the stage, the striking lyrics have not lost their openness and straightforwardness to this day. Aku-Aku stood out in the underground not only in terms of music, but also in their perfectly mastered instrument playing. And they played every concert to the full, shouted, roared, let themselves be carried away by the intoxication of their own music in spite of time.
At that time, they toured a lot of underground events, whether it was steamers, barns, weddings or forgotten inns, one foot still over the abyss…
This recording comes from the autumn of 1988, there is practically no other material from that time. We paid as much care to the technical adjustment as possible.
After 1989, Aku-Aku essentially immediately abandoned playing songs with a possible political undertone, and in memory of this period they released the studio LP "Humanquake" (ProArt) in 1991. "We don't want to be brave all of a sudden, it's everyone now," they said then and set out on a journey of experimentation. According to the musicians, the recordings from this period (1992-1994) belong to the best that the band has done. So far, they remain unreleased. The last official title was the CD "Between a Dog and a Wolf", released in 1995 (Happy Music). Then the Aku-Aku began to run out of energy and Luděk Zedník definitely disbanded the group. There have been no personnel changes throughout its existence.
The paths of musicians have diverged, some sometimes join forces (eg the project Cat with a number of famous musical personalities) and life goes on, but ...
But Aku-Aku deserves to be remembered today not only as a memento of the stubbornness and stubbornness with which it was possible to go after his "flying dream" at that time, not only as a memory of crowded country halls, full of friendship and shared charm of music, but especially because - above all !!! - it is excellent, timeless and original music.
