9-CD box set Lost Tapes. Vol 1

Since I have got such a great help with presenting SBB, I think I can leave the regular discography of that group in capable hands of my friends and start presentation of some more unusual discs myself. Yes, it sill will be the same group, SBB from Poland, but my next few torrents will present discs with unpublished material, recorded either live or for radio broadcasting during the years 1974 to 1978. This material has become available only recently when the 9-CD box set titled Lost Tapes, Vol 1 was published last year.

Previously unpublished doesn't mean that this material is worse than their regular albums. Quality of some recordings may be a bit inferior, but everything was carefully remastered and I hope you will enjoy these discs the same way as you do (I hope you do, don't you? ) enjoy the regular albums presented by my friends.

So, let's start with the first disc in this series. The music contained on this disc was originally recorded in January 1975 at the studio of Polish Radio Katowice and was intended to be used by the film production company (WFDiF, Warsaw). Some tracks, or even some parts of some tracks were used for various films, usually as a background music or somewhat hidden behind dialogue. However, these tracks were never published in their entirety, the way they were recorded.

About CD:
This disc consists of two different recording sessions. The first one, similar as the disc #1 in this series, was recorded in studio of Polish Radio Katowice, also intended for use as a film music stock material. But this session took place in April 1976, more than a year later than the session included on disc #1. Here you can hear the changes, both in instruments used and in music played by the group. As before, you can hear some themes which would be incorporated in future albums.

However, the real surprise is the second part of this disc. This material was also recorded in 1976 and part of it was used in educational film Olowica (Lead-poisoning). The film lasted only 12 minutes, but the whole, over 35 minute long material is included here. And this is probably the most experimental recording the group ever did. This music is so different from what you already grew accustomed to expect from SBB that you may begin wondering if these are the same guys playing here. Yet they are...

The music is very disturbing and quite bizarre. The band was searching for new sounds in such unusual places as the inside of the grand piano! Multicolored sound stains fill this strangest, the most avant-garde SBB recording session.

About CD:
On this disc we have a chance to hear yet another kind of music the group was playing. This session, recorded in Polish Radio Gdansk in August, 1975, shows the more jazz-oriented side of this group. With two guests featurunig on tracks #1 and #3 here, they are coming close to the sound of Group Niemen from their period when the albums Marionetki and Requiem Dla Van Gogha were recorded.

Parts of this recording session are included as bonus tracks on discs published in the Anthology box set (not uploaded yet, should come here in a few days). The remainder, almost exactly 80 minutes of music, is included here.

The music presented here is mostly in the avant-garde jazz area, but not entirely. Some parts are still kept within their rock roots...

Please be warned: this disc contains rather difficult kind of music, often reaching to jazz avant-garde. I can't honestly say that this disc belongs to my personal favourite part of the SBB musical production. However, I'm convinced that some of you will find it quite interesting. Besides, this is yet another side of the group, worth exploring. Tomorrow we will hear a bit lighter side of theirs...
